Manchester… Ish’s junket

Being kind enough to be let out of the office for the weekend, Ish’s arrival in Manchester heralded a weekend of debauchery and all round loose behaviour. Friday night’s proceedings kicked off at Robbo’s where we bore witness to the truly baffling, but amazing conduct (and probably illegal in some countries) of one legendary nameless gigantic Spaniard. Meanwhile, Ish had arrived late so catch up drinks were in order. Rounds consisted, quite sensibly, of double shots followed by pints. Somewhat unsurprisingly, we were soon on our way and Robbo’s closing time soon approached so we cabbed to town to find something open. After being denied from entering the “members only” Press Club, we found our way into Venus. Now, a number of patrons reassured me it was a straight club, but there was a lot of non-straight activity. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Highlight of the night had to be pushing Ish into a lovely patch of mud, after he deliberately wore his Ted Baker’s. But I did indeed have my comeuppance when he wiped the mud off all over my lovely jeans. Is there anything they haven’t endured?

Saturday was an extremely lazy day. It involved laughing chronically at some of Chris Rock’s finest work and watching Saturday Night Live highlights. Does it work Trebek? Then we went for a cheeky wander with Ashley through the ever so trendy, but also quite derelict, Northern Quarter before having lunch at Simple and then partaking of a ritual I like to call Casino Royale (for the second time). Just a high quality Bond film. Followed by a satisfying Chinese dinner at Fusion in Fallowfield, we then quickly headed out to Label, one of the bars on Deansgate, for some non-student partying with a bottle of Bollinger, inspired by 007 himself. The rest of the night was somewhat blurry, but there were cocktails and at some point Veuve mixed with Absolut. What was that all about? A good night nonetheless.

Sunday was equally as lazy. Brunch in Didsbury at Saints & Scholars, a delightful little café with a sensational all day breakfast and decent coffee. Followed by a screening of good old Zoolander and then Ish was off, back to the land of milk and money, I mean honey after an action packed weekend.
